From day one you rewrote the farm book
From walking dogs, raising lambs and giving that look
So wooly and plump with the trademark black head
Dogs, cats and ducks would follow wherever you led
Not for meat on kebab or chop on a braai
Not for serving with veg or a drie boontjie slaai
Not meant for the pan nor a potjie pot
Not for cold meat platters or even piping hot
Not to serve with mint, rosemary or thyme
Not even for pairing with the best local wine
No, you were always destined for more than just a sheep
You were the daytime companion who’s memory we keep
You were the best mom to many and gave us such fun
You made farm life a pleasure and when we called, you’d run
So thanks for all the years your legend will live on
Rest in Peace Barbara you no longer with us but you’ll never be gone
